The midwives were excellent in guiding my pushing and I didn’t tear as a result. We had immediate skin to skin and delayed cord clamping. We kept her on skin to skin for a few hours afterwards and my placenta passed well without the injection.

The birth felt truly like something that belonged to me, my husband and our girl, rather than something that had happened to us.

How often are we mums actually in the photo? Our phone reels are full of snapshots of our kids, selfies they’ve taken of themselves, and maybe the odd family pic where we’re half in the frame.
